Raidmax Virgo 811W Case (cont.)Exterior:
Raidmax's Virgo 811W is based on a very common OEM case style with a metal body and plastic front with a door that covers all of the external drive bays. However, Raidmax builds on the door by adding a long oval display piece down the middle. In the top center of the oval piece is a thermal display which shows the temperature of an internal temperature probe when the computer is on. Unfortunately, the temperature display only displays the temperature in Fahrenheit, whereas most computer modders would prefer Celsius (I know I do); probably because the numbers are lower!
A few inches down from the temperature display is where the hard drive LED is located. All the corners of plastic case front are taped with pieces of masking tape for protection during shipping. This is very noteworthy for it shows the level of care Raidmax displays in even their budget case.
The front case door that covers the top two thirds opens up to reveal four 5.25" and two 3.5" drive bays, each covered with a plastic bezel. To the left of the 3.5" drive bays are the power and reset buttons. Below the front panel door are curved vents which offer plenty of air intakes for the front intake fan. Below all the vents is a small door with a USB logo engraving. This door opens to reveal two audio ports and two USB ports.
While the front of the Virgo 811W is made of plastic, the rest of the case is made of steel. The top, left, and right side panels all have a superior, near automotive, glossy finish. The left side panel features a uniquely shaped window with an 80mm fan bay near the top left corner.
The window is held on the side panel with silver round pegs. These stand out especially with the Titanium black version of the Virgo 811W (as with my review unit). The 80mm fan bay is grilled with a black mesh grill. This is a nice and much safer alternative than standard fan grills.
The right side panel features a square patch of vents in the center and a groove on the right side which helps make sliding off the panel easier. Oddly enough, the left side panel does not have this groove (mainly because of the presence of the window), even though the left panel is more likely to be removed more.
The bottom of the case features four round plastic feet. The back of the Virgo 811W features the usual assortments found on just about every computer case. It is worth noting the rectangular plastic fan grill over the rear exhaust fan. Visually, this is a very nice feature. Both side panels are secured with standard Philips/nut screws.
