Water-cooling for Everyone: Cooler Master Aquagate and Asetek WaterChill (cont.)Description:
The Asetek WaterChill represents the "Kit" style of water-cooling, implying that the reservoir, radiator, and pump are all separate units. Unlike water-cooling units, each part of the kit can be easily upgraded with different components. The WaterChill KT03A-L30 kit consists of a Hydor L30 pump, RSV02 reservoir, Black Ice 120mm radiator, 120mm Sunon fan, Asetek's latest waterblock: the Antarctica, and one very long tube. Each component uses push on pipe fittings.
The Hydor L30 pump is capable of moving 1200 liters of water per hour. It has a rotating base and four section cups. A reservoir mounting bracket is included that allows the reservoir to mount in front of the pump. Attached to the pump is the WaterChill Control Unit featuring SafeStart and NoiseControl. SafeStart makes the WaterChill start with the computer. NoiseControl is a jumper that lets the fan cooling the radiator run at either 12V or 7V.
The RSV03 reservoir is made of Plexiglas and is cylindrically shaped. The Black Ice 120mm radiator can accommodate the included Sunon fan or any other 120mm fan of choice. When running at 12V, the fan runs at 2400 RPM moving 69 CFM with 35.5 dBA of noise. The included tubing is 3/8" * 1/2" indicates that the inner diameter is 3/8 of an inch while the outer diameter is 1/2 of an inch.
The Antarctica waterblock has a copper base and a clear PMMA (Poly Methyl MethaCrylate) top. A rubber gasket lies between the two for a leak-proof seal. PMMA does not resist certain chemicals very well; the manual gives a table of cleaning chemicals that should and should not be used to clean it. The Antarctica features a single inlet, two outlet design, compared to "standard" waterblocks that have only one outlet. Water that enters through the center of the waterblock, flows through copper "fins" and exits from both sides. The inlet features a slit opening, compared to the outlet's round openings. The slit opening increases the turbulence and velocity of the incoming water (imagine pinching the end of a garden hose).
The lap job of the waterblock is very good. The Antarctica has built in mounting holes for all the latest socket types. For Socket A users, your motherboard must have four mounting holes. Asetek also includes a spare Socket A Antarctica clear top with only Socket A mounting holes. This will come in handy for Socket A users with motherboards that restrict the use of the standard Antarctica.
