WinBackup SoftwareProvided by: LIUtilities Have you ever lost data on your computer? If you have not, then you must have just started with computers. Data loss can occur from just about anything such as hardware failure, viruses, operating system fowl ups, and user errors. Therefore, it is very important to keep a backup of your files. Even if you do not have important information on your computer, there is always something you have and do not want to lose or spend hours trying to reconfigure. These items could be E-mails, contact information, web site address, etc... WinBackup is a program developed by LIUtilities that allows you to backup your important files.
Overview: WinBackup is a simple program to use. Learning time on this program is less than 5 minutes. To aid in learning, WinBackup includes a helpful wizard. The backup wizard opens the proper menu and prompts the user with instructions via a help balloon that points at the option. Personally, I like this form of a wizard because it helps the user to learn the program, not just learn how to use the wizard.
Windows offers a backup program, why not use it? Windows does include a decent backup program. It uses the archive bit on the file. The archive bit allows for incremental and full backups. This bit can get you in trouble if ever changed by accident. A file will not be included in an incremental backup if the archive bit is off. An incremental backup is a backup that only backs up the files if they were modified or are new. This backup method is faster during backup and creates a smaller backup file, but it is slower when restoring. If the archive bit is off when performing a backup the file will not be copied; therefore, if the bit was changed on accident an important file will not be updated. WinBackup keeps a log file of the files that have been backed up within its backup. WinBackup offers more features that make backing up files easier and more efficient. The best feature that differs between WinBackup and the Windows backup program is that WinBackup includes compression. I feel this is a must with any backup. Compression can save lots of money. If a backup is stored on multiple CDs, Tapes, or DVDs, using more of them will cost more money.
WinBackup also includes a security feature that the Windows backup program does not. The data can be encrypted in 128 or 256 bit encryption. This is important to those people that might keep tax information like Quicken, credit card information, password lists, or other sensitive information on their computer. |
