LIUtilities WinTask 5 ProfessionalProvided By: LIUtilities Do you often feel your computer is not running as fast or smoothly as it should? What could be causing this? Do you feel like there are certain things running on your computer that you do not know about? Everyone that knows computers, understands that Ctrl+Alt+Delete will allow them to get to the Windows Task Manager, which shows list of processes that are currently running. But most of us have no idea what the technical Image Names of every process means. In addition, Windows Task Manager does not always display everything that is running. Therefore, it is tremendously difficult to track down what is causing your system to not run as well as it should. One solution is WinTask 5 from LIUtilities. What exactly can WinTask 5 do? Read on and find out. Versions and Setup: WinTask 5 comes in two flavors, Standard and Professional. This review will be looking at the Professional. Check out LIUtilities' site for a comparison chart of features of both versions. WinTask 5 can be purchased as an online download or a boxed CD. Installation is straight forward and when complete, it will run by default when Windows starts. Overview:
Essentially, WinTask 5 is Windows Task Manager on steroids. The main window has two toolbars, Main and View. It also features a list of ALL processes currently running on the computer (even ones Windows Task Manager does not show). Instead of just the ambiguous file names of each process, WinTask 5 displays understandable names. In addition to the CPU and memory usage, the directory location, start time, thread number, and priority of each process are also shown. Just to note, these columns can be shown in Windows Task Manager by selecting the View menu then select columns. Of course, WinTask 5 is more than a simple program that shows an advanced list of running processes. LIUtilities promotes it as program that can speed up your computer as well as keep it secure. While the program will not automatically do those things, it can indeed fill those claims. How; by making it easy to get rid of processes you do not need and keep them gone. Boosting and Securing:
First and foremost, WinTask 5 allows you to temporarily or permanently stop certain processes from starting up with Windows. Clicking the Autostart button on the View Toolbar will bring up the list of programs that starts with Windows. Programs on the list can be disabled or removed. Disabled keeps the program in the list but it does not start with Windows; this way you can temporarily remove unfamiliar programs to test their affect on Windows. Remove removes the program from the list. The fewer number of programs that start with Windows, the faster Windows will start. Minimizing the amount of programs that start with Windows is a good beginning to improving overall performance, but the fun does not stop there. The biggest thing you can do with WinTask 5 to improve your computer's performance is to get rid of unnecessary processes running on your system. When a process is selected from the process list some brief information about the process is displayed on the bottom portion of the screen. The information explains what that process is and advice on its necessity. If you encounter something that you do not want running, you can simply stop the process. If you find that certain processes that you do not want keep coming back, you can add that process to the WinTask's Block List. As the title suggests, WinTask will block processes in the Block List from running. Naturally, getting rid of unnecessary processes will boost the overall performance of your computer because precious memory and CPU cycles are no longer wasted on them. The claim about WinTask 5 making your computer more secure comes from getting rid of spyware, adware, and other security intruding processes.
WinTask 5 uses a Process Library to provide user friendly names and information about processes. Of course, the Process Library does not have information about every single process that exists. However, WinTask 5 does have the ability to check for updates to its Process Library. In addition, if there is a process that has no information, you can fill it in yourself. If you are unsure of what the process is, you can find information on just about any process at ProcessLibrary.com (from Uniblue Systems Ltd., the parent company of LIUtilities). Another way WinTask 5 can improve the performance of your system is by allowing you to adjust the priority of processes. If you feel certain processes should deserve more attention, then increase its priority. If you feel certain processes are not as important but still important enough to have running, then decrease its priority. |
