X-Handler Case (cont.)A Closer Look: The handles are actually pretty nice. The paint matches the case perfectly and the bottom handles (feet) are padded so they will not scratch your desk. Some hardware is included. The handles are designed in such a way that only one screw is needed for secure attachment. Small covers snap over the screw holes to hide the screw heads and give a finished look to the handle installation.
Inside the case is a hardware box with the typical standoffs, screws, etc. A pinout page gives you pinouts for the side mounted USB, Firewire, and audio ports. A small piezo speaker, several fan screws (elongated for the duct mod), and a small bracket is included as well. Thanks to the lack of documentation, I still haven't found out what the little bracket is for. If anyone finds out, shoot me an email...
I installed the handles and snapped on the covers in hopes of achieving that G5 look I was looking for. Although similar, they lacked the flowing design of the G5 but are surprisingly strong. I built a complete system inside and carried it without fear up and down the stairs several times. LAN partiers rejoice! The handles are functional and quite sturdy.
Once the handles were installed, I decided to weigh the case. Even though it is made of steel, it only weighed an amazing 14lbs and withstood my entire body weight without breaking a sweat! Keep in mind, I'm a full grown 6' 1"man @200lbs.
The front of the X-Handler case has four externally accessible 5-1/4" bays and one external 3-1/2" bay. The top bay covers are hinged for an instant stealth mod. The front intake is nicely meshed with an 80mm LED fan installed, and is predrilled to accept up to a 120mm fan. Not bad.
The motherboard side of the case is nicely meshed to aid in airflow and heat dissipation.
The rear of the case is pretty standard. There is no installed fan, but the rear grill is predrilled to accept up to a 120mm fan.
Multimedia ports are installed on the right side of the case. Very much welcomed here is a Firewire port in addition to USB and audio.
