Aspire X-Plorer Case (cont.)Exterior: Out of the box, you notice great care is taken to protect the X-Plorer's window. A plastic sheet kept the window from being scratched.
On the side of the window is a fan funnel. The idea is that your heatsink's fan will be inside the funnel or right under it. This allows cool outside air to cool your CPU instead of warmer air from inside the case. This idea can cool your CPU 3 to 5 C better from what I have seen with similar designs. Of course, this doesn't help cool your video card. You will also have to make sure the cooler will fit in the funnel. Some new heatpipe coolers may not. If not, you can remove the funnel and mount an 80mm fan here. For those with shorter heatsinks, the funnel extends.
The black paint job is perfect. It is very reflective and will finger print; therefore, be careful when touching it. On top of the case is nice looking Aspire fan grill. Of course, under the grill exists a blow hole exhaust fan.
Overall the case is small and light, perfect for those of you who do not need or want a large case. It looks sweet to. The front has a mesh blue metal that makes an "X" looking pattern.
Opening the mesh door reveals four external 5 1/4 inch slots and two 3 1/2 inch slots. To the right of the 3 1/2 inch bays are the power and reset buttons.
Below the door is the temperature display and other goodies. Two USB and one FireWire ports exist on a silver triangle. Also, in the triangle is a fan controller knob. This is a nice added feature for it fits right in and is easy to access. To the upper right are the power and HDD LEDs.
The back of the case is pretty standard. It is unfinished metal and does not have a shinny look. A 120mm case fan mount is present.
