Xitel HiFi-Link for iPodDescription: More than just a way to add AV connections to your iPod, Xitel's HiFi-Link for iPod is a full fledge iPod dock capable of, among other things, charging the iPod while it is docked. The main component of the HiFi-Link for iPod is indeed the rectangular dock. The top shell of the dock, which accounts for the top and the majority of the sides, is made of white plastic with a glossy texture.
At the top, towards the front, is the area which the iPod docks into. Xitel's HiFi-Link for iPod is one of the first devices to support Apple's new iPod Dock Adapter system. Beginning with the new video capable iPod and iPod Nano, all new iPods come with a plastic Dock Adapter. This allows an iPod to fit with any iPod accessory that supports the Dock Adapter system. By adopting this system, Xitel insures that the HiFi-Link for iPod will be compatible with any new iPods that become available in the future. Five Dock Adapters are included to support all the previous iPod models (without the Shuffle), from the iPod Mini to the voluminous 60GB iPod Photo.
The front of the dock features a small rectangular infrared window. This window is used to receive the signals from the included remote control. The back of the dock features three gold plated composite ports (one video, two audio). Also on the back is a DC port, which the included AC adapter plugs into. Lastly, a knob for adjusting the level of TruBass is included.
The bottom half of the dock is matte gray. The bottom side features 5 round rubber feet for traction on whatever surface the dock is placed on. Esthetically, the overall white and gray color scheme of the HiFi-Link for iPod matches the white iPod perfectly.
The included remote control resembles an obese iPod Shuffle. The top side of the glossy white remote features 5 gray rubber buttons, four of which are arranged in a circle surrounding the fifth button. The bottom of the remote has a battery compartment door which slides off to reveal a compartment that supports two AAA batteries (two of which are included).
Also included with Xitel's HiFi-Link for iPod is a gold plated RCA cable. This "studio grade" cable, as Xitel claims, is decked in white and fully shielded. An RCA to headphone jack adapter is also included. This adapter allows the HiFi-Link for iPod to connect to a set of powered multi-media speakers (i.e. computer speakers).
The accompanying AC adapter is also clad in white. This sideways mini wall wart is designed so it doesn't block any vertically adjacent AC ports.
Lastly, a black and white multi-lingual (5) user manual is included. This manual features concise information, from connecting the HiFi-Link for iPod to AV components, to the functions of the remote control buttons, as well as a convenient table displaying which iPod model uses which Dock Adapter.
