Xtreme Files F1-B Computer BackupProvided by: Coolmax Everyone knows how important a backup is for a computer. Even if you don't have sensitive information, reinstalling an OS and trying to reconfigure every setting, will take days. Most current backup solutions involve copying data to tapes, CDs, and DVDs. Tape and optical storage have their disadvantages. They are slow and in many cases will not hold all your data. For lots of data you should consider backing up to an external hard drive. To alleviate the pain of configuring software and remembering to run it, Coolmax has created a one touch button backup and restore solution. The Xtreme Files F1-B is an external USB hard drive that allows you to press a button to backup or restore your system.
Packaging: The Extreme Files drive is securely packaged in a plain cardboard box. The box is filled with packing peanuts.
The retail box for the Extreme Drive F1-B is wrapped in the bubble wrap.
The back of the box shows screen shots of the Xtreme Files in use. On the back is also a list of features, requirements, and functions. The side of the box has line art of the unit's outline.
Opening the box reveals all the components packaged and secured inside. The Xtreme Files' hard drive is wrapped in plastic and secured in an egg carton. The power cord and power adapter are packaged in separate boxes.
Features: These features can be seen on Coolmax's web site.
Description:
Coolmax's Extreme Files is meant to look like an "X". The shinny, silver plastic is shaped like an "X" with a circle in the middle. Three buttons are inside the circle. They are for data backup, OS backup, and restore. Only Windows 2000 and XP can be backed up. Outside the buttons is a clear plastic window that allows LEDs to show through. Outside the clear plastic in a circular pattern are clear bumps added for design.
The "X" facing curves up. Underneath the facing is where the hard drive rests. Vents are included to give the drive some air flow. The drive is an 80GB Western Digital, 7200 RPM drive. I have never been a fan of Western Digital drives because I have seen quite a few die in my time. This drive runs very cool and quiet though.
On the backside is the power connector, USB port, and power switch. It looks like their are punch outs for a couple of Firewire ports for future expansion. The instruction manual is very good. It talks about the features of the drive as well as gives instructions for performing each of the backups and restores. Although, the instruction manual is poor grammatically. There are lots of misspellings. Pictures are included so you will still be able to figure out everything you need to know. |
